About Us
Program
Winds Across the Bay is a Wind Ensemble (like an Orchestra, but without the Strings, except for the occasional Double Bass) for young musicians who wish to become highly-skilled players. It is open to middle and high school students who display a high-intermediate to advanced musical proficiency in any wind, brass or percussion instrument, as well as a desire to enhance their ability in the instrumental performing arts.

Winds currently hosts two bands, The Minors for Middle-School age players with at least one year Band experience, and The Majors, for players with at least 3 years of experience.

Winds performs a broad spectrum of classical and contemporary music, much of it adapted from traditional full orchestral arrangements. In recent years, Winds has performed pieces by Bernstein, Mussorgsky, Ellington, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Ravel, Smeltz, and many others.

Membership for The Majors is by audition only; no audtitions are necessary for The Minors. Tuition for the 2011-12 season is $600 for The Majors, and $350 for The Minors. Tuition includes two tickets to each performance, a CD recording of each concert, and Instrument Clinics several times a year given by local Professionals. Financial Assistance is available.

Winds is intended to supplement the individual school music programs and is not intended to supercede the music education currently being provided in the schools. Winds works together with school programs to provide young musicians with an additional opportunity to perform quality music in a professional atmosphere.
